Extra acoustics + Selection aid

Additional acoustics (if this option isn't listed, please inquire about the possibilities)

Our artworks already significantly improve acoustics as standard: they dampen an average of around 60% of the sound coming from them. This means that even with normal reverberation, you'll immediately notice an audible difference.

However, if you're experiencing strong reverberation or a space that really needs extra sound deadening, you can choose our Extra Acoustics option. With this option, we add a layer of wool (4cm thick) to the back of the artwork. The result: sound deadening that increases to almost 100%.

Visually, nothing changes: only the artwork's frame becomes a bit deeper (from 4.1 cm to 7.1 cm). Otherwise, you won't notice anything, except that your space becomes wonderfully quiet and comfortable.

Benefits of additional acoustics:

  • Increases damping from approximately 60% to almost 100%
  • Suitable for rooms with strong reverberation
  • Extra layer of wool of 4cm on the back of the artwork
  • Damping comparable to an open window
  • Invisible solution : only frame depth increases from 4.1 cm to 7.1 cm

Step 1: Determine the purpose of the artwork

Before choosing a piece of art, it's important to determine its purpose. A piece of art can be more than just decoration; it can make a statement, evoke a feeling, and even improve the acoustics of a room. Here are a few considerations to help you determine the purpose of your artwork:

  1. Statement of Harmony: Start by determining the artwork's intended purpose. Consider whether you're looking for a piece that seamlessly integrates with the colors and ambiance of your interior, or whether you prefer a striking piece that contrasts with the surrounding space. 1. Functionality: Besides aesthetics, a piece of art can also serve a functional purpose. Consider, for example, whether your artwork needs sound-absorbing properties to improve the acoustics of your space. Pieces of art of various sizes can have an impact on the acoustics, making them both decorative and functional. Step 3: Choose the size of the artwork

At Pieces of Art, we understand that choosing the right size artwork is essential for creating the perfect atmosphere in your space. But how do you choose the right size?

The ideal size depends on several factors, including the size of your room, your personal taste, and the extent of the acoustic problem you want to solve.

Pieces of Art offers a variety of sizes to choose from:

  • Square: 60x60 cm
  • M: 60x80 cm
  • L: 40x120 cm
  • XL: 80x120 cm
  • XXL: 120x180 cm

How do you choose the right size?

Size of your space and your personal taste
  • For a small space or to add a subtle accent, the square size (60x60 cm) or size M (60x80 cm) are perfect. These sizes work well in hallways, small rooms, or as part of a gallery wall.
  • Do you have a larger wall to fill? Then choose size L (40x120 cm) or XL (80x120 cm). These elongated sizes fit well above sofas, dressers, or in hallways and also offer significant sound absorption.
  • For large spaces where you really want to make an impact while improving the acoustics, the XXL size (120x180 cm) is ideal. This size perfectly fills large empty walls and creates an impressive statement in any room, while also providing maximum sound absorption.

Not sure which size is best for your space? Use masking tape to mark the outlines of different sizes on your wall and get a visual impression of what each size will look like.

Acoustic needs

When choosing the right size artwork, it's important to consider the acoustics of your space. Are you experiencing reverberation or poor sound quality? Then an artwork with sound-absorbing properties can be an excellent solution.

Is your space large and the reverberation even greater? Then it's wise not to think too small and opt for larger artworks and/or hang multiple pieces in the room that can absorb the sound. But sometimes a single piece can make a big difference. To give you an idea, here's the experience of Denise Kortlever, who has a large space with far-from-ideal acoustics. Her problem was primarily in the kitchen, but it extends into the dining area and then the living room. To solve her acoustic problem, she initially hung only the artwork Noah in her kitchen. This wasn't enough to completely address her acoustic problem. She also placed the artwork in a less-than-ideal position, acoustically speaking (but certainly aesthetically pleasing!), but this was her reaction:

"Well, the difference is truly obvious! We need a few more square meters of felt for the entire space, but it's simply CRAZY how much difference this one piece of art makes and how beautiful it looks. A truly great tip!" says Denise Kortlever.

So, even though one piece of art in such a large space won't solve her entire acoustic problem, it's already helped her immensely. If you have a smaller space, one piece of art might solve your entire acoustic problem. Read below to learn how to best choose your artwork if you want to improve your acoustics.

Step 4: Improve the acoustics of your room

To improve the acoustics in your room, it is good to take the following points into account:

- Identify the areas where sound problems occur (most), such as echoes or noise pollution. The places most affected by reverberation are often those with lots of hard materials and where you gather with others. For example, the living room where you socialize with friends, the dining area where you talk about your day as a family at the end of the day, but you also want good acoustics in your workspace where you frequently make phone calls. The areas where sound reflects most will be where you'll benefit most from your acoustic wall solution. So consider placing artwork in strategic locations where sound absorption is needed.

For optimal sound absorption, place artwork in areas where sound is reflected, such as opposite hard surfaces or in large open spaces. These could be walls opposite windows, concrete walls, or large open spaces with minimal furniture.

The more felt artwork you hang in the room, the more sound absorption you'll experience. Therefore, consider placing multiple artworks on different walls in the room.

Choose the size of your artwork based on the size of your space and the desired level of sound absorption. Large artworks like the XXL (120x180) can absorb more sound than smaller sizes.
